What's New for the 2004 Volvo V40?
Three new colors debut on the 2004 Volvo V40, and a Touring package is added that includes a moonroof, leather seats, and 18-inch alloy wheels. A Limited Sport Edition package will be available on just 2,500 Volvo V40s this year. It includes special alloy wheels, a power glass sunroof, a power driver seat, leather interior appointments, unique interior trim, sporty exterior trim, premium sound and a trip computer.

Objections to the 2004 Volvo V40: - Cannot compete with entry-luxury wagons

- Significant price premium over mainstream wagons

Since the day it arrived on U.S. shores, the Volvo V40 has been at a disadvantage. It's styled like the boxy Volvos of the past and drives more like an economy car than an entry-luxury wagon. At sticker price, the 2004 Volvo V40 cannot hope to compete with the Audi A4 Avant, the BMW 325i, the Lexus IS 300 SportCross or the Volkswagen Passat. At the heavily discounted prices for which the Volvo V40 usually sells, well-equipped versions of lesser vehicles such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Jetta are a better deal.
