What's New for the 2005 Subaru Legacy?
Completely redesigned, the 2005 Subaru Legacy sports a new look, a powerful engine upgrade, and stylish interiors. The big news may be found under the hood of the Legacy 2.5 GT models, which have a modified version of the Impreza WRX STi's 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, making 250 horsepower and 250 lb.-ft. of torque. All Legacies reside on stretched wheelbases that generate a smoother ride than that of its predecessor. Standard features include 16-inch alloy wheels, remote keyless entry with security system, body color ground effects, four beam headlights and electronic throttle control. Safety equipment on all 2005 Subaru Legacy models now includes dual stage deployment driver and passenger front airbags, front seat side impact airbags and side curtain airbags.

Advantages of the 2005 Subaru Legacy:

  • Full-time, all-wheel drive
  • Turbocharged engine in the 2.5 GT
  • New, upscale interior
  • Deserved reputation for reliability

Objections to the 2005 Subaru Legacy:

  • Subaru wants to compete with Audi, but isn't quite there yet

Editor's Advice:
The 2005 Subaru Legacy, in sedan and wagon form, isn't as rambunctious as its stablemate, the Impreza WRX STi, but the Legacy 2.5i serves well as a practical sedan or wagon that enjoys a long-standing reputation for durability. Opting for the Legacy 2.5 GT, you'll have the performance of a V6 combined with the economy of a large four-cylinder. The Subaru Legacy's biggest advantage is its standard all-wheel drive, which adds surefootedness to your travels whether in slippery road conditions or during spirited driving on a curvy highway. The Subaru Legacy's biggest challenge is moving the brand into entry-luxury territory to compete against Audi. Can Subaru charge a premium for the Legacy? Sure, in comparison to an Accord or Camry. Despite suave good looks, a massive boost in available power and a newfound focus on safety and performance, the Subaru Legacy is not quite yet viewed as an upscale car in the minds of consumers.
