What's New for the 2005 Subaru Outback?
An all-new and vastly improved third generation 2005 Subaru Outback model line is spearheaded by the new Outback 2.5 XT with a 250-horsepower, intercooled and turbocharged, 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine, a detuned version of the motor under the hood of the impressive Impreza WRX STi. A new 250-horsepower, 3.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine powers outback 3.0 R models. The base Outback 2.5i has a revised 168-horsepower four-cylinder engine that meets PZEV emissions standards. Slightly larger than the previous model, the Outback is longer than before and the redesigned interior has more room. The cabin also features flush surface treatments, and soft-touch dash and door trim, in an effort to move the Outback upscale. Subies are trusty steeds; nearly bulletproof when it comes to reliability, and able to manage all but the worst snowstorms. No Outback is suited to serious four wheeling, but all offer higher-than-the-average ground clearance and added peace-of-mind when the weather turns foul. Outbacks equipped with the horizontally opposed "flat" six engine reward owners with power and luxury accoutrements in the cabin. With a fresh look inside and out, the 2005 Subaru Outback is exactly what most people need when they set out to shop for an SUV. Alas, too few bother to investigate one of the original crossover vehicles, and it's one we highly recommend. |
